About Genix

Genix is basically Gentoo, but you can undo things. You have one config file, one command to apply it, and if something breaks, you can just roll back. You can even do it from the boot menu. It comes with OpenRC, but you can still use systemd or SysV if you want. The main idea is that your computer is yours. No account, no locked system, and no stuff hidden away from you.

Simple

Everything is in /etc/genix/configuration.toml. Edit the file, run the rebuild command, and Portage does the rest. Packages, USE flags, makeopts, services, and everything else are all in one place. It's just a normal text file, so you can actually see what's going on.

root # genix-rebuild switch

Recoverable

Every time you switch configurations, Genix saves a generation. You can see your old generations, go back to one, or delete ones you don't need anymore. If you're using Btrfs, you can also choose an older generation from GRUB when starting your computer. So even if you mess something up, you can go back.

Yours

Underneath, it's still Gentoo. It uses Stage 3 and Portage, and packages are compiled from source by default. If you want things to be faster, you can use a binhost. You still have control over USE flags, -j, packages, and the rest of your system. Genix isn't trying to hide Gentoo from you. It's just trying to make it easier to manage.
